Computer Information Technology Programs

ABCya is the leader in free educational computer games and mobile apps for kids. Information Technology (IT) careers are exploding, with the Bureau of Labor Statistics projecting 550,000 new IT hires needed nationwide by 2026. Most of those jobs are related to the internet, whether it’s cloud computing and network security or web and app development. The Industry Sponsored Student Projects program (ISSP) provides students with real-life experience by working on IT or software projects directly from industry. Students work in teams or individually with an industry sponsor, proceeding through the development life-cycle to develop a complete IT or software solution.

Based on the Intel 8008 microprocessor, the Micral is one of the earliest commercial, non-kit personal computers. Designer Thi Truong developed the computer while Philippe Kahn wrote the software. Truong, founder and president of the French company R2E, created the Micral as a replacement for minicomputers in situations that did not require high performance, such as process control and highway toll collection. Selling for $1,750, the Micral never penetrated the U.S. market. In 1979, Truong sold R2E to Bull.

Computer technical support: This concentration develops skills specific to working with office professionals to solve computer-related problems. These skills prepare students to work at a help desk responding to a client’s computer problems and performing setup, upgrades, and repairs to computers and computer peripherals. In your final year, you will focus on integrating all your skills by examining the inner workings of networks using different application programming interfaces (APIs) to build network applications, comparing different computer architectures and completing a major project using an embedded system.

Students who do the Schools units that relate to computer games or animation may incur costs for external storage media such as USB or HDD drives. Level 5 students may complete a Live Project on the Professional Development unit – this may incur some travel costs. In team-based projects, the future video game designer works with artists and programmers to create comprehensive projects. Game Design degree students develop the leadership skills necessary to take projects from initial concept to publisher-ready final product.
