Nevada Computer And Technology Standards

With advances in technology, demand for computer engineering specialists is high. Shortly after delivery of the Atari VCS game console, Atari designs two microcomputers with game capabilities: the Model 400 and Model 800. The 400 served primarily as a game console, while the 800 was more of a home computer. Both faced strong competition from the Apple II, Commodore PET, and TRS-80 computers. Atari’s 8-bit computers were influential in the arts, especially in the emerging DemoScene culture of the 1980s and ’90s.

Are interested in computers and various software applications. To that end, undergraduates in our Computer, Software, and Electrical Engineering programs receive hands-on experience in world-class facilities beginning in their very first semester and culminating in a multidisciplinary capstone project that tests their skills. Designated as a Center for Academic Excellence in Information Systems Security Education, UAT offers this cyber security degree to provide the advanced industry-standard tools and skill development necessary that propels information network technology initiatives and ensures success in the network security field.

Assistant Professor Jun Li’s research targets network security, distributed systems, Internet protocols, and network simulation and performance analysis. His ongoing research projects include automatic defense against unknown self-propagating Internet worms through distributed monitoring; detecting and tracing attacks against the BGP routing protocol; robust communication architecture for security monitoring and warning systems; and secure data sharing among data clients.

This course introduces the fundamental principles and techniques for designing and developing effective Web sites. Topics include: hand-coding pages with HTML; styling text and content with CSS; adding dynamic features with client-side scripting techniques; server-side scripting, and, managing files and Web sites using FTP software. Students will also be introduced to information architecture and interface design, XML, as well as advanced mark-up techniques using DHTML. This course is the foundation for more advanced web courses.

The Alto is a groundbreaking computer with wide influence on the computer industry. It was based on a graphical user interface using windows, icons, and a mouse, and worked together with other Altos over a local area network. It could also share files and print out documents on an advanced Xerox laser printer. Applications were also highly innovative: a WYSISYG word processor known as Bravo,” a paint program, a graphics editor, and email for example. Apple’s inspiration for the Lisa and Macintosh computers came from the Xerox Alto.
