Employment of computer and information technology occupations is projected to grow 13 percent from 2016 to 2026, faster than the average for all occupations. Multimedia on the Web introduces the basics of web communication, webpage function, and design. Students become familiar with digital media including graphics, animation, video, and sound, and use software to create interactive multimedia documents. The College cannot guarantee co-op employment. All co-op students are required to conduct an independent co-op job search in addition to the supports and services provided by the Department of Co-op Education.

New superchip to make PCs 100 times faster Researchers have developed a technology that could enable our computers — and all optic communication devices — to run 100 times faster through terahertz microchips. Many people confuse a Computer Science Degree with a Degree in Information Technology. Knowing the difference will help you better choose a career. Welcome to Central Maine … Read more

What Is The Difference Between Information Technology And Computer Science?

Computers and those professionals that maintain, troubleshoot, program, administer, network, and build them are central to most every industry. The Computer Engineering Technology (CET) program provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary for computer industry positions that address both computer hardware and software, with special emphasis on electronics. Students are prepared for entry-level positions that may involve the testing, troubleshooting, repairing or installation of a variety of computer and networked systems. Other positions may include assisting engineers in the design and building of computer systems. Graduates of this program are well-prepared to continue their education in Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering Technology programs.

Computer Engineering Technology Computing Science

The Computer Technology (CT) program has been developed to provide training in the principles underlying the design of modern computer systems. For its January issue, hobbyist magazine Popular Electronics runs a cover story of a new computer kit – the Altair 8800. Within weeks of its appearance, customers inundated its maker, MITS, with orders. Bill Gates and Paul Allen licensed their BASIC programming language interpreter to MITS as the main language for the Altair. MITS co-founder Ed Roberts invented the Altair 8800 — which sold for $297, or $395 with a case — and coined the term personal computer”. The machine came with 256 bytes of memory (expandable to 64 KB) and an open 100-line bus structure that evolved into the S-100” standard widely used in hobbyist and personal computers of this era. In 1977, MITS was sold to Pertec, which continued producing Altairs in 1978.

Difference Between Computer Science & Information Technology

A complete history of computing would include a multitude of diverse devices such as the ancient Chinese abacus, the Jacquard loom (1805) and Charles Babbage’s “analytical engine” (1834). Database Systems is an introduction to database design and access, with a focus on database concepts, data modeling, normalization, data warehousing, query languages, and the formulation of complex queries. Students are able to incorporate theory with hands-on learning in the Cybersecurity Engineering Lab, Digital Systems Lab, and Software Development Lab, to name a few.

Each program has a course sequence or a proper order in which to take classes. It is important that students take their classes following the course sequences provided by the department because foundational or prerequisite classes contain information that utilized in the upper level courses. Have students research computer history. Have each student choose an earlier stage of the computer and compare and contrast it with computers we … Read more
